KINGMAN
The Kingman Fire Department is reminding residents to replace the batteries in their smoke detectors this weekend. Every year, more than 3,000 people die in residential fires in the U.S., according to the department. Most people die from the smoke, not the fire, and most die while they are sleeping. A smoke detector can alert sleeping residents to a fire in their home, but the detector has to have working batteries. KFD encourages residents to check their smoke detectors once a month and replace the batteries twice a year.
