13-year-olds arrested for GV crime spree

Erin Taylor
Miner Staff Reporter

KINGMAN - Two 13-year-old brothers from Golden Valley are facing several felony charges in connection with a string of burglaries, after police found a cache of stolen weapons in a trailer where they'd been staying.

Twins Earl Vincent Edmondson and Larry Earl Edmondson are charged with seven counts of first-degree burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The pair were caught in the act of burglarizing a home in the 3500 block of Bibo Road Saturday afternoon by deputies who were in the area looking for the brothers in connection with a burglary reported in the area earlier that morning, according to Trish Carter with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies had taken a burglary report in the 3300 block of Klagetoh Saturday morning in which a .22 caliber handgun and a .22 rifle were stolen. Police were doing a patrol of the area when they spotted the boys burglarizing the home on Bibo Road around 1:40 p.m. that afternoon.

The pair ran from the residence, jumped a fence and allegedly ditched a 9mm handgun in an alley before they were apprehended, Carter said.

Once in custody, the boys allegedly admitted to a string of burglaries, including the one earlier that morning.

Carter said further investigations led deputies to a trailer in the 3000 block of Mazatzal Drive, which the brothers had broken into and had been staying for two days.

Carter said police found numerous reported stolen items inside the trailer, including Zippo style lighters, binoculars, coins, four knives, numerous rifles, one pellet gun and two BB guns.

Carter said Earl and Larry Edmondson have been connected to at least nine burglaries between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7 in the northeast section of Golden Valley.

The boys are currently being held in the Mohave County Juvenile Detention Center and may face additional charges.

I will say, if these kids were mine...I guarantee they would not want to come home, they would want to stay in jail. I am 41 yrs, I believe in the mid 1980's is when the no spanking law went into effect and gave children more rights than there parents. It seems so clear. Kids know this and do what ever they want. THANK GOD I DON’T HAVE KIDS. Until parents get the upper hand, well you will see this country fall faster and a lot more homeless folks.

If you all really think about it, it doesn't boil down to JUST the parents, but to society as well. With this world going even further downhill because of the people who run this country backasswards, you wouldn't have half of the problems you do now. If you were alowed to punish your child, then you would have better control. I say blame it on the justice system! If they would stop taking away the rights of a parent to keep their child in line, most of these problems wouldn't be happening. I'm not saying it's right what these boys did, and I'm not saying it's not the parents fault at all, just moreso on the government and society than anything. Slap them on the wrist? No! What good would that do! That's like taking a toy away from a toddler who took it from another and telling them no that's not nice! Come on people, get real! If they want to act like adults, treat them so! Punish them, give them time in juvenile hall, jail, whatever you want to call it these days. These boys are old enough to act their age and know right from wrong, and showing them proper punishment might actually wake them as well as their parents up and show them the real world of what life is all about!

SO funny how fast you all are to pass judgement on these two. Do you have any idea what they have been through? [Deleted]. Please, they are 13, yes their age is there and it does matter! [Deleted]. Im not saying they should not be punished because they need to be, they need someone to show them what a huge deal it is because they wont get that at home. It's not like their charges are light, i dont know what makes you think it's gonna be a "slap on the hand" with what they are being charged with..[Deleted]. What you just read is just what they want you to hear, not the whole story if you knew the whole thing it would blow your mind to think these kids think it's okay because thats what they have seen, heard and been taught. [Deleted]. I hope these two do get a second chance at life after they pay their time, I hope it can change them for the better. I hope who these boys end up with can give them the special type of care (undoing whats been done to them)they are going to need. Maybe we'll see good things from them in the future. Who are you to say? It all comes down to parenting or lack there of...

Jeanne: Yeah, it doesn't mention the parents at all, does it? I'd be interested to know if the parents had problems with these boys and reported them in the past and what help they (the parents)received. Sometimes when the kids get so out of control that the parents have no way of dealing with them (no help from the courts) it's better to just let them go and let the law deal with them. A sort of "tough love" as it may.

OK Court system, now how are we gonna handle these 2 - 13yr olds??? They are old enough to know better and should be considered adults and face their charges as adults.. AND given punshiment enough that will stick into their head that they would learn from it!!! But I'm sure they will get a little "slap on the hand" and be sent on their merry little way.. again.. (like a few murders I know) and who knows, someday they too will be on the front page of the newspaper with a big picture of them for something more serious!! And who will suffer??? Yup your right, an innocent person, family, community and they too will be taken care of by the "system" - me & you, known as Tax Payers!!!! Do I sound MAD???? You're damn right I am.. get with the program court system!!!!

Jeanne, very good question. Yes, are there any parents around today?

I see too many of these kids today talking to their parents like they are dirt and daring their parents to discipline them. I think they all have the CPS number memorized.

It's sad when parents are not allowed to control their children. But then again it is also sad when parents don't want the responsibility of parenting.

People please. Although it may be true that their parents did not contribute any positive attributes to their children's personalities or lives, these children should be punished the same way an adult would be. Burglary? Stolen Guns? What was their next plan? Perhaps take the guns to school and have a shooting spree? No thank you, let's keep our children safe and away from these [deleted] children. It is up to the system to correct the damage that has been done, and it is not our duty to sympathize. It is, however, our duty to protect our community as much as we can, and keep people like this, despite their age, out of it. They seem almost pathological, with little or no remorse. Yes, thank you parents for traumatizing your children and leaving the community and the rest of the country to deal with your failures. Now they are their own problems. Good luck children. Larry&Earl are my best friends they did do stupid things for there age, does not mean that there parents are at fault for what they did in there life. If you guys met them they are people. They are very stupid for what they did. They should have gone to school and be normal kids.I really like both of them. They were like brothers to me.

Wibeancounter, those BOYS should be accountable for their behavior! 13 is old enough to know better than to steal, that is on them. The parents should be investigated for neglect for sure, but those boys had a choice.

look, i'm no advocate or anything. the kid dropped a nine millimeter handgun! what would have been the outcome if they met you or god forbid another child while commiting these string of robberies. we as citizens should be grateful that no person lost life over this.

Article comment by: Bad laws

Yes the boys did wrong and yes they should be punished for it. I was raised as was a lot of us when we did wrong our parents punished us. In current society the bleading hearts run our homes. We cant spank our children, we cant put them in the corner, we cant slap them on the hand when they are little. If you punish your children you are reported for child abuse. Yes I know there is child abuse out there but the law they passed does not protect the abused children it makes delinquits out of them they know they cant be punished at home or they can scream child abuse. I am not saying that the law is a bad one just that it needs to be revised. We dont know the parents of these two young men so we should not pass judgemant on them until we know the full story. Maybe they are stuck in the situation that if you disipline me I will call the police. We as a society have failed our children because we let the liberals run our homes.

The boys had it bad from the start. You would just have to know who there mom and dad are. They were good boys who just got lost due to no one who cares. There were cutest little boys that had no chance at life due what they now and what they have seen.

"Larry", what exactly are you ranting about? The kids were caught and are in detention, facing charges; that hardly qualifies as "nothing being done about it".

Furthermore these two are obviously radical outliers on the bell curve, NOT typical thirteen year olds, so they are hardly representative of "what is wrong with our country today".

Seriously. Get a grip.

Their parents should be going to prison with them. Someone's got to be accountable for their behavior.

Quality parenting. I am sure they, the parents, will be chock full of excuses why they are not to blame.

This is what is wrong with our country today. When kids can run the streets and nothing is done about it. Why are these boys not in school? I know when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's and you got into trouble in school, they sent you to reform school and that's where you stayed all day.Not like they have here in Kingman.Maybe its time that parents and the government do something about this, because these kids are the ones that our going to run the country someday. We need to teach them respect and discipline. And not let them get away with things the courts and the police do.Things need to change!!

I sure hope these "kids" do not just get a slap on the hand for this.

Where was the parents and are they going to be acountable.

It seems te boys knew what they was doing and should be treated as adults since they stole firearms and other weapons.
