KINGMAN - "New Moon," the sequel to the immensely popular "Twilight" vampire romance film, debuts in theaters this Friday, with one of the movie's stars set to make a special appearance in Kingman just days after the film's release.
Kiowa Gordon, who plays the role of Embry Call, one of the film's werewolves and a friend of the principal lycanthrope, Jacob Black (played by Taylor Lautner) will appear from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Monday at Brenden Theatres Kingman Cinemas, 4055 Stockton Hill Road. During the appearance, Gordon will be on hand to sign mini-posters from "New Moon" as well as headshots of himself for a fee. He will also sell T-shirts branded with the film's poster.
Gordon, who was born in Berlin but spent much of his childhood in Arizona, is both a member of the Hualapai Tribe and a former resident of Kingman, having attended Hualapai Elementary School. He was lured to the cinema by manager and fellow Hualapai Dina Trevino, who has a family connection to Gordon's mother, Camille Nighthorse.
"When we were little we went to the same church in Peach Springs, and my mom knows her from church," Trevino said.
"Another tribal member came here on Saturday and said (Gordon) was going to be in Peach Springs on the 24th, so I called and got a hold of his mother and worked it out to have him come out on the 23rd."
Gordon is the seventh of eight children, many of whom have also appeared in bit parts in various films over the last decade, including "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Mars Attacks!" He has already finished working on "New Moon's" sequel, "Eclipse," scheduled for release next year, and is scheduled to work on another film, the black comedy "Murder for Dummys" (sic) in December, with the horror flick "Into the Darkness" to follow next spring.
Trevino said she and theater owner Tom Daugherty are anticipating a hefty reception for "New Moon," especially considering how well its predecessor, one of the biggest box office draws of 2008, performed here.
"We had a lot of people come in, even when it was here for so many weeks," she said. "We expect a huge turnout for this one."

Why is everyone so negative? Kiowa will have more time in the next couple of movies, give it time. He is taking time out to come here and meet with the kids, they will love it. They need something to stimulate them, other than the what they have been doing. Geez! I'm glad he's coming.

Im happy the young folks have these movies to infactuate themselves with.
I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing about another Vampire/werewolf anything.
Movies died for me the day CGI technology took the art away from the actors an gave it to a programmer.
Seems it doesnt take much to be an actor anymore....all you really need is the "hot" look with bright white fake teeth and your a star..talent is way down the list.
sad....very sad for real movie lovers..

I'm betting that the majority of the readers who made a negative comment regarding Kiowa Gordon's visit are men! I personally am looking forward to meeting Kiowa and showing my support for him and the movie.

It actually is customary to charge for a signed picture. I live near Travis AFB, Ca, and we are frequently visited by B-list celebs. They usually charge $20, but the money always goes to a charity. The actors from the Star Wars movies always donate to George Lucas' charity organization. Lindsey Wagner, the Bionic Woman, donates to cancer research. I think it's a win-win. And if you think young girls are silly over this thing, I spend five hours in line with other thirty something year olds to meet the actors that play "Alice" and "Emmett"! Totally fun, though, and I'd do it again.

I think it is a wonderful thing that this yong man will take the time to be there for the ones that enjoy those movies. I am sure there will be quite a turn out for him, and he deserves it. How many of you who are cynical about his appearance can say they have appeared in a hit movie. Not many . Congrats to you Kiow, enjoy it. Good for you!

So is it customary to charge a fee for signing head shots? Seriously ... maybe if your Tom Hanks or George Clooney ... c'mon ... be glad anyone is asking. It should be done out of appreciation for the fans.

Thank you "Leaving for Las Vegas" for reminding me of all the reasons I departed your "fair city".
The cynicism, bitterness and Self-righteousness (twilatards, really?) that embody the Kingman spirit seem to be alive and well in you. It's too bad that attitudes like yours help keep Kingman in the dark ages with respect to industry, culture, education (the list goes on) despite the efforts of people like Dina to keep you relevant.
Good job Dina and congratulations Kiowa, Kingman needs more people like you and “silly young girls”; Twihards or not, still need to believe that anything is possible…even in Kingman.

@ No name provided: And exactly how big was the part YOU had in this movie? Maybe you can do a dual signing with Kiowa, have your manager call his.

Im a huge Twilight fan but Im not the kind to run screaming at the actors! Sadly I will probably not attend because all of the screaming fans. I think they ruin the chance to really hear what the actor/actress have to say and I want no part in that! Next time Kiowa! :)
