KINGMAN - The Hastings store at 3153 Stockton Hill Road will host not one, not two, but four local authors who will be signing copies of their latest books from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
J. Rose Knight, also known as Joan Hobernicht is a retired school teacher and businesswoman who has taken classes in Creative Writing and is active with several online writing workshops. She has been published in many print anthologies and her first novel, 'Teri,' is available at Amazon.com.
Knight's latest novel, "Apple," is the story of a young girl who is raped while in foster care. It tells of how she works her way to adulthood and examines both the good and bad choices she makes in choosing whom she befriends as she seeks safety and love despite her painful past.
Lois Palmer is a long-time resident of Lake Havasu City. She is a retired registered nurse and an artist, in addition to being a writer. She, too, has been published in several print anthologies, and is an original member of the Lake Havasu City Writers Group.
Palmer will be signing copies of her first novel, "Finding Angela." The book tells the story of a Lake Havasu City girl who is kidnapped by two teenaged boys and subsequently escapes into the desert, where she loses her memory.
An old man who lives with a coyote and a three-legged cougar, an Indian tracker and a local police detective get involved with the search and ultimate rescue of the teen. Palmer says the book is focused toward young adult readers.
Cindie Miller is a former newspaper reporter and features writer, and holds a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University. She currently teaches English and drama at the high school level and is working on her Fine Arts degree at Sewanee, the University of the South. Like Palmer, she is a member of the Lake Havasu City Writers Group.
Miller's book, "Ask Me No Questions," is the story of a woman named Stephani who falls in love with a man who claims to be a CIA agent. She prepares to live a life of secret adventure, only to discover, after years of being the object of both mental and physical abuse, that she has been duped: Victor is not an agent for the CIA.
Sharon Poppen has won awards from Arizona Authors Association and the National League of American Pen Women. Her first novel is "After the War, Before the Peace," and her work has also been featured in the print anthologies "A Flasher's Dozen," "Desert Treasures," "Skive" and "Offerings from the Oasis." Her online publications include "A Long Story Short," "Apollo Lyre" and "Laughter Loaf." Sharon is an original member of Lake Havasu City Writer's Group and Society of Southwestern Authors.
Her latest book, "Hannah," is the story of a young Texan who arrives in the Lone Star State in 1880 to start a cattle ranch with her husband. A gang of outlaws kill the husband and rape Hannah. Acting like a female Lone Ranger, Hannah tracks down the leader of the gang to bring him to justice.

That is awesome! Congrats, ladies and please keep coming to Kingman and encouraging other artists and wordsmiths to do the same and maybe through osmosis it will inspire the people here to be creative themselves and also show the kids there are other things to do than drugs.

So… all four books are about the rape, abuse, and victimization of a main female character? Gosh, we just don’t see enough of that in today’s world! Gee, I just can’t wait to tear my way through each book!
Ok, that was sarcasm. My congratulations to all four writers in having their first novels published, that is a very big achievement (even if the subject matter does not interest me, I still hope there will be a good turn out at the book signing.)
