Application deadline noon today for MCC seat

KINGMAN - Applicants who live in the District 5 governance area of Mohave Community College are being actively sought for a recently vacated seat on the Board of Governors.

The application deadline is noon today, and all materials must be submitted at that time. The district includes east Kingman, Wikieup, Truxton, Hackberry, Peach Springs, Littlefield, Moccasin and Colorado City.

Those interested are asked to send a resume and a letter of interest to the Mohave County Educational Service Center, P.O. Box 7000, Kingman, AZ 86401. The application can also be sent by fax to (928) 718-4958 or by e-mail to mfile@mcss.k12.az.us.

Not all applicants will be interviewed. Those selected for an interview will be called.

Q: *Why do we need SB1070 if Arizona law enforcement regularly turns over illegal aliens to Border Patrol agents already. With SB1070 the Arizona taxpayers will pay all the costs that go along with an arrest under state law. If law enforcement can already detain illegal aliens and simply turn them over to the feds, why should we pay all these extra costs in these times?

Q: * Eighteen states and the District of Columbia were named finalists Tuesday in the second round of the federal "Race to the Top" school reform grant competition, giving them a chance to receive a share of $3.4 billion. The states are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. All finalists will travel to Washington in coming weeks to present their proposals. Will you be covering any of this in your paper?
