KINGMAN - It was a deadly holiday weekend on waterways neighboring Mohave County as boaters celebrated the last party of the summer.
A 28-year-old Henderson, Nev., man, identified as Joshua Lafollette, died Saturday after jumping into Lake Havasu from a point known as "Jump Rock" near Copper Canyon. The man was pulled from the water by a bystander wearing scuba gear and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A 30-year-old Sylmar, Calif., woman was killed and a 27-year-old man from Newhall, Calif., was seriously injured after they were hit by the blades of a boat propeller.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office said the woman, Martha Acevado, was wading behind the boat at the mini sandbar on the Colorado River north of Lake Havasu at about 4 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by the boat's propeller. She died at the scene.
One of the boat's passengers, James Diaz, was injured when he jumped in the water to help the woman.
The driver of the boat, Jorge Diaz, 31, of Newhall, Calif., is charged with manslaughter and boating under the influence in connection with the accident.
In two other separate incidents, the body of Tyrell Blake, 26, of San Diego was still missing Tuesday. He is presumed to have drowned after falling out of a boat after it hit a wake one mile south of Jack Smith Park near Needles Saturday. He was not wearing a life jacket.
A Las Vegas man was also killed Saturday in a boating accident on the Colorado River in the Parker area. The La Paz Sheriff's Office said Kurt Pederson was crushed after the boat he was riding in hit a dock.
Mohave County Sheriff's Office
said they made 10 arrests for boating under the influence on local lakes and rivers. The office said it responded to a dozen boater assist calls, but no accidents were reported by the agency.
