Gun prank leads to plea by ex-Mohave County employee

 KINGMAN - A former Mohave County Public Works employee pleaded guilty earlier this week to charges of disorderly conduct with a weapon following an incident on the job last spring.

Clifford Olsen, 57, was fired from his position as maintenance crew leader at Davis Dam after being arrested in April. According to court documents, Olsen was with a group of co-workers when he placed one employee in a choke hold and put a gun to his head while saying, "I could kill you anytime I wanted."

The employee, along with several witnesses, said it appeared that Olsen was joking or trying to show off, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, which handled the investigation of the incident.

Mohave County officials refused to comment after the incident as to whether Olsen was authorized to carry a gun on the job.

Under terms of the plea agreement, Olsen is expected to be sentenced to 15 days in jail and 3 years probation. He also agreed to surrender a 9mm gun used in the incident.

Olsen will be formally sentenced Feb. 20. His disorderly conduct charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor if he successfully completes probation.
