Margie Huber, Wanda Hepburn and Bonner Maxfield: Winners, the Arts
These three women are the original organizers of the Quilts for Valor program in Kingman, according to nominator Karin Goudy.
The quilts were made for members of the military who were touched by war. The goal was to make at least 20 quilts a year for recipients, all of whom hail from Mohave County.
Each year a ceremony is held to hand out the quilts.
"Men and women receiving the quilts - particularly Vietnam veterans - have expressed how much it means to them to receive these quilts and, most importantly, how much they appreciate the recognition they receive for their sacrifices," wrote Goudy.
Goudy noted that while many quilters in Kingman have donated to the effort and new leaders have assumed responsibility for the program, "Margie, Wanda and Bonner should be recognized for initiating the effort."
