KINGMAN - A man crashed his car into a sedan that was parked on the side of the road near North Mallard Drive and East Martin Lane, and then broke into a nearby home to hide only to be caught when the home's owner arrived.
Mohave County Sheriff's deputies on Monday arrested Alford James Hicks, 35, of Kingman after they responded to the home in the 3600 block of Robin Lane.
According to witnesses, Hicks crashed a 2010 Nissan Versa into a Ford Crown Victoria nearly head-on.
They told deputies Hicks was "flying" down Mallard when he lost control and struck the parked car.
He fled the scene on foot. As deputies were investigating the accident, which caused $5,000 worth of damage to the parked car and $1,000 damage to a nearby fence, they received a call of a burglary in progress at the Robin Lane home.
Witnesses identified Hicks as the driver of the Nissan.
A record check revealed Hicks was driving on a suspended license issued by Massachusetts.
He faces charges of felony burglary and two counts of criminal damage, both felonies, and misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and failure to notify law enforcement of the crash.
