MedCath scores well in nationwide quality study

KINGMAN - The new hospital may be off to a good start before it's even completed. MedCath, the corporation that is building and will operate the new hospital, was recently ranked 11th out of nearly 100 hospitals in the U.S. for quality of service and patient safety by the Joint Commission Journal of Quality and Patient Safety.

"We're tremendously proud that MedCath has appeared so high on the list," said Duane Scholer, CEO and president of the new Hualapai Mountain Medical Center. "And we're pleased to appear along with some of the top teaching hospitals."

According to its Web site, the JCJ is an international organization that evaluates hospitals on how well they meet health standards, quality of health care and patient safety.

The JCJ evaluated 98 hospitals systems that had four or more hospitals within their organizations. Each health system was evaluated for its service and procedures for patients suffering from heart attacks, heart failure and pneumonia, as well as for patient satisfaction.

Edwin French, CEO and president of MedCath, said he was very excited about the news.

"We have taken steps over the past year to further improve upon quality performance," he stated in a letter to MedCath employees. "We take enormous pride in having MedCath appear on this High Performance companies' list."
