KINGMAN - Kingman is less than a year away from adding another hospital to its fold.

Hualapai Mountain Medical Center, 3801 Santa Rosa Drive, is on schedule for completion, said Gerardo Perez with Lott Brothers Construction.

Lott Brothers Construction, general contractor for the project, has been building the hospital in stages. The bottom floor has been broken up into 20 areas, with three sections for each additional floor.

With the floor deck and concrete column finished for the fourth floor, construction will focus now on the interior of the building.

"We're on track, on budget and doing a great job," said Ed French, MedCath's president and chief executive officer.

MedCath is behind the construction and operation of the $70-million development north of Interstate 40 in east Kingman.

"The city has worked in any way with the hospital for development," Vice Mayor Janet Watson said. "It's amazing the progress and achievements so far."

With 75 percent of local employees on the project, Perez said they average 140 workers on site every day of construction. Focusing on the interior, workers will focus on installing walls, floors, heating vents, air-conditioning, water and electrical.

"This is basically a standard hospital," Perez said. "We are on time, on budget."

Lott Brothers Construction primarily handles the construction of similar medical buildings.

The facility will feature operating rooms, labs, a pharmacy, emergency rooms, pre- and post-operating rooms, Magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography scan and radiology department, Perez said.

A director of human resources and director of facilities have been hired, HMMC President Duane W. Scholer said, and they have made an offer to a medical staff coordinator and expect a response within three weeks, Scholer said.

The next hires will be a vice president of clinical and vice president of finance, he said.

The current tough economy hasn't impacted their projected hiring numbers, Scholer said.

"Not at this point and time," Scholer said, "because the bulk of our hiring will be in the summer or early fall."

With this outlook, HMMC has seen interest from several individuals in the medical field. "We've had a positive response here and in Bullhead City and Las Vegas," Scholer said.

I have had 2 heart surgeries at kingman regional,, the new cardio and cath department were great my stay in intensive care was great... I recieved excellent care there....I was treated with kid gloves...I am alive today because of the hospital , it's staff and doctors and of course my cardiologist... I have noticed that there are people out there that are never happy with anything or anyone...so blah blah blah blah blah to those who would down play the positive role Kingman regional medical center has in this community.

Something which many forget but we all need to be reminded. If the people of Kingman wish for our city to grow we need the infrastructure to support its growth. To build this after the fact only disrupts vitally needed programs and in the end cost more money. Just maybe the new hospital will put Kingman Regional on notice that they are not the only game in town and provide better services to the community

Oh my I read the previous comments. Trust me as a travel nurse from the East Coast, I have been working here in Bullhead city and trust me Kingman needs a heart Hospital!and hopefully one that will strive for magnet status..which encompasses nursing excellence..something this entire area is lacking!

I used to live in Kingman, Az and my husband had heart trouble, we had to travel to Phoenix, Az for all of our Balloon tests and surgeries. Thrilled to hear they are getting a heart hospital as next spring, I plan to relocate back to Kingman.

Also I am working at a hospital in Springfield, Mo and glad there will be more opportunities for me to find a job in healthcare.

It's great we're getting another hospital. More employment oppertunities, and less waiting in the ER. The economy could use a boost and this is the perfect way.

WHY WHY WHY???? This town does not need another Hospital!!!! They just added MORE to the existing one as it is!!!! NOT NECESSARY!!!!! Just like the numerous banks in this town, this is one less thing we need to spend our dollars on!!!!
