Golden Valley motorcycle accident claims two lives

Family members have confirmed the death of a second person as a result of a motorcycle accident on Highway 68 last week.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials also confirmed Tuesday that they have identified the driver of the SUV who was seen by witnesses making an abrupt U-turn in front of the motorcycle just before the accident.

Golden Valley resident Steve Russo, 53, was taken off of life support after being airlifted to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas following the accident around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Sunrise said a miscommunication led to officials initially telling media that Russo had been released from the hospital.

Russo's long-term girlfriend, 49-year-old Wendy Lynn Robinson, died at the scene of the accident.

Robinson was a passenger on Russo's late model Ultra Classic Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was headed west on Highway 68 when an SUV made a sudden U-turn in front of the bike.

Russo "laid down the motorcycle" as a result. DPS officials said neither Russo nor Robinson were wearing helmets.

DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said the name of the driver of the SUV is not being released because she has not been formally charged with a crime.

The woman was one of several witnesses interviewed at the scene by officers, according to Cook.

She did not identify herself as the driver of the suspect SUV until the investigating officer re-contacted her after reviewing statements and noticing a discrepancy with her version of events.

Officers initially thought the SUV in question had left the scene before they arrived.

Cook said officers are consulting the County Attorney's Office in the investigation, but that at minimum the driver could face charges of false reporting to law enforcement for lying in her initial statement to officers.

Jeffrey, they are still deciding on what to charge the driver with, if they charge the driver at all. We are all waiting to see.

I just heard today (10/13/12) that the driver that caused this double fatality accident was arrested... Is this a rumor or the truth?

In addition to giving a false statement to an investigating officer, she should also be charged with man slaughter (x2), illegal U-turn I am betting and in my opinion since she left the scene KNOWING she caused the accident, she should be charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
With as many motorcycles that are out in this area, you would just think that people would look for them more.
