Fred says: You’re actually somewhat right about wasted effort, and yet posting here is one of the very things you believe makes you a watch... er, lapdog. So once again you’re advertising that habit of double standards and ill-considered reasoning.
I don’t believe for a second that the supes aren’t reading here. Or perhaps they’re paying staff to do it for them. Regardless, they’re likely to ignore public opinion here or anywhere. I say that because politicians who are as tone deaf as this bunch can’t be the brightest bulbs, and as we all know the solution to a dim bulb is to change it, not wait fruitlessly for it to brighten. You should consider that if the supes were half as smart as you seem to think, then they’d have made a U turn the day after the publishing of the original article about their vote.
But no matter, they’ll begin to get it once the recall gets underway. By then they’ll have been sticking to their guns for so long that their only hope will be that folks are too lazy to vote. Admittedly, that’s often the case with these things. But I don’t think it will go that way this time. The word is already getting out, and people are really p***ed. I got 2 calls yesterday from acquaintances who’ve only just now heard about the issue through the grapevine. I’m telling people to spread the word, learn how to operate their cell phone cameras if they haven’t already, and to keep an eye out for supes in county vehicles. I even offered a free dinner to one guy if he takes the winning photo. :-) Once it’s time we should have some good shots to display along with the recall petitions, which is when the issue will get the level of coverage and discussion that’ll put it over the top.
Should this forum not prove adequate for getting the word out, we can have a website devoted to the issue, run print ads with the link, etc. In the meantime, even though comments here aren’t going to accomplish much, it’s at least good practice for the main event. I have to say, the supes had better bring some better debating skills than you’ve shown so far. Pretending that 160 grand isn’t worth taking action over is the most ridiculous rationalization I’ve heard so far, and that’s saying something considering that it's already been claimed that a supe can’t really squeeze into an Explorer. Speaking of which, I had to laugh at the recent photo of Watson. Obviously he’s into self-promotion, and yet he hasn’t managed to get a photo of his friction-fit into that SUV. Do you think it just might be that he didn’t give the excuse much thought before offering it? Or will you claim in your self-debunking way that he’s too busy to take photos?

@ Fred -- Question.
Did you send a copy of your letter to those you have addressed on the BOS -- or just this mis-delivered piece here?
Gary has told me he is far to busy to follow the blog circuits -- therefore your critique here will most likely not even be read.
Just more pointless and wasted effort on your part, it would appear.

I have read all the reply's from you and Loyd. I have to agree with you Fred. Loyd, your backing your good old buddy Supersize Watson, is looking more like you want a job. There is no rhyme or reason to not to be in favor of your Supersize buddy getting sucha an expensive vehicle of his choice. So far we have not seen much of anything from this Supersize Ego, other than a photo op. And lets not for get your comment "IF" he brings in 200 to 300 jobs, well lets see, he wants Uranium Mining near the Grand Canyon (and where is this in conjunction to Kingman?) He has stated that he is for water conservation (oops Mining takes up a lot of water). And lastly you respond for him "Gary feels awful about the New Vehicle" but Supersize has never responded to the Voters that elected him in. Unfortunately Loyd you have been the only one. And lets see Supersize was elected in January and how much has he cost the taxpayers in money so far? It's only the middle of March, heaven help us! The people are angry by this gross spending of a personal vehicle of their choice. That is the beauty of an election, they can be voted in and the can be recalled. Maybe since you are a good friend, you can explain what RECALL means to Supersize as you are polishing his 40,000 vehicle. Because it is quite apparent that Supersize cannot read big words, and he need your help.

Loyd wrote: "I, Loyd Peterson, do not support or condone the purchase of 4 new vehicles for the Mohave County Board of Supervisors and county manager Walker."
Fred: That’s a good start, but it’s pretty damned weak for a supposed watchdog and self-proclaimed defender of the “common man”. The differences between you and most county residents is that they didn’t need the statement dragged out of them, and they’re willing to actually DO something about the issue.
Loyd wrote: If however, you think this one issue is sufficient for me to turn my back on a dedicated public servant that is trying his best to keep this county from hitting bottom – then think again.
Fred: It’s laughable to claim that spending an unnecessary $160,000 in any way constitutes “trying his BEST to keep this county from hitting bottom.” Apparently our definitions of “dedicated” differ as well. I’d say that a truly dedicated representative would be happy to drive his own vehicle to work, and to use one of the county’s many existed underutilized vehicles for legitimate business travel. And it’s far from “dedicated” to have staff waste time coming up with intelligence-insulting justifications for a bad decision.
Loyd wrote: We have far greater problems to deal with right now and for the foreseeable future at all levels of government – especially locally. And, I'm going to be loud and adamant with the city, the county and the state to "cinch up" and do what's right for the people of this area.
Fred: Oh I see, 160 grand is too small for you huh? Let’s extend your logic. Imagine the supes voting to buy, say, tanning beds or video game consoles, both of which cost a fraction of $160,000. Your idea is that we should let it slide because there are bigger fish to fry? Very funny.
Loyd wrote: I would like your support, rather than your detraction in this effort. Somehow, I doubt that I will get it.
Fred: Sounds like you’re running for office on a passive-aggressive platform. Here’s an example of what you should be doing, and what reasonable people would support.
Open Letter to the Mohave County Supervisors
Your decision to indulge yourselves with any new vehicles at all, and ridiculously expensive ones at that, is an outrage. Considering the predictable firestorm of negative opinion, it’s obvious that you either didn’t bother to do any research on the subject, or chose to ignore the results. Either way it’s a display of incompetence. Even so, surely you can’t help but realize that similar decisions are responsible for rampant cynicism and mistrust of politicians in general. Yet you couldn’t pass up the opportunity to throw more fuel on the fire. At a time when most of us are tightening our belts, the three of you have made it clear that the driving of five year old vehicles is a level of ‘sacrifice’ that you aren’t willing to make. Your decision, and the subsequent flimsy rationalizations of it, have created an entirely needless distraction. At a time when we should have every oar in the water, you’ve willfully handicapped yourselves by giving up any moral authority to ask others to pull together for the common good. Enjoy those new vehicles while you can, and feel free to thumb your noses some more as you’re driving by the recall petition volunteers’ card tables.

Darn, I just can't figure out what you want from me guy. I have stated 2 or 3 times on other articles that I am not in agreement with the BOS decision on the vehicle issue. So, let me make it third-grader clear for you:
"I, Loyd Peterson, do not support or condone the purchase of 4 new vehicles for the Mohave County Board of Supervisors and county manager Walker."
If however, you think this one issue is sufficient for me to turn my back on a dedicated public servant that is trying his best to keep this county from hitting bottom – then think again.

You might consider how telling it is that you try to change the topic rather than defend your position. If you have any reasonable logic to explain why you’re in favor of $160,000 being spent on new vehicles for the supes, then let’s hear it.

It’s good that you can see the problem, but your reply is mostly non-responsive.
Loyd wrote: I posted a comment not 20 minutes ago to the Ron Gould article on today's Miner front page in all-out support for the senator's position that more state taxes are not the answer. That comment also included an admonition to the County and City that they need to "pay attention".
Reduced spending alone won’t balance budgets. Gould has been around plenty long enough to know EXACTLY where he’d cut his supposed billion. Yet his plan is nowhere to be found in his rhetoric or on his website, because big cuts would kill him come election time. He’s just another empty suit trying to appeal to his base by talking around the problem and DOING nothing.
Loyd wrote: I have a tendency to "cut slack" when new faces arrive on the political scene because it does not take long for the true caliber to manifest itself.
That excuse doesn’t hold water. How long have Johnson and Walker been around? Not to mention all the staff that’s complicit in the process. And what difference does it make anyway if someone is new to their job? Are you finally going to protest when they buy their NEXT new vehicles? Please.
Loyd wrote: Our new governor has hauled out her mantra almost before she even laid the Bible down. I am appalled.
I thought you said that you “cut slack” for the new guy? You’re making a habit of double standards.
Loyd wrote: Government at all levels is showing their true hand that they do not intend to back-pedal in any way what-so-ever – but maintain the "bubble bloat" they enjoyed from 2006-07.
Government success requires diligent citizen watchdogs. Reasonable people can disagree about a lot of the details, but calling out the supes’ current extravagance is a no-brainer.
Loyd wrote: The honeymoon is over as far as I am concerned and you can rest assured that my position is on the side of the common guy that has taken it in the teeth from oil giants, utility monopolies and is now threatened from all sides by the insatiable tax man from the feds right down to the smallest fire district.
No, you’re not on the side of the common guy if you’re willing to go along with $40,000 vehicles for local officials, and unwilling to call BS on their excuses.
Loyd wrote: We've had it – and "Tea Parties" are sprouting up across this country like fox-tails in spring. So, No, Fred, I will not be known as "double standard" Peterson.
Good luck with that. What you will be known as depends on what you DO, not what you say. It’s disingenuous to yak about tea parties when you can’t even bring down the hammer on an obvious waste of $160,000.
Loyd wrote: The state is on notice. The county is on notice. The city is on notice. And, I would be pleased to add my voice to the throngs that say, "We're mad as hell and we're not taking it anymore!"
Again, disingenuous. I see no sign that you’re mad about the waste of $160,000, and you’re obviously willing to take it. Contrast that with the couple dozen people I’ve talked with personally: every single one is outraged about those vehicles and eager to sign a recall petition. You’re alone in your position. If it were up to me, I’d revoke your license to practice punditry until you start walking the talk.

I believe it’s a public service to expose wasteful spending, so I enjoyed your flux capacitor humor. But the most hideous expenditure in the county at present is the $160,000 being wasted by the supes for their spiffy new vehicles. Why haven‘t you come out strongly against that? Your comments on the subject thus far read like rhetorical wiffleball. I don’t get it. None of your readers would doubt that you’d be loud and livid if Salem and friends were getting new $40,000 cars. Don‘t you think it‘s about time for a scathing column about the supervisors’ royal grab and the pathetic excuses that county officials offered in defense? Do you really want to be forever known as Loyd ‘double standard’ Peterson?

"Breaking News" – Ha – more like "Breaking Wind".
I have a "lab insider" that can get me the Flux Capacitor for 30 minutes on Saturday while the place is abandoned. It's been tested as "good to go" for two-week "jumps" back in time. I can get back there and make sure I opine that statement you ascribe to me so your credibility can be re-established. That way you save face and can continue with your reporting practice, undeterred.
I will probably forego the interview given that owning and driving a Lincoln Navigator does indeed improve reasoning ability. At least it improves status, prestige, the aura of success, intelligence, worldly savvy, charm, wit and culture just from the advertising hype. A superior reasoning ability, rumored to be a factory standard option – enables all the other items. Although a standard option with the purchase – it is disabled at the factory if purchased by a Realtor.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Flux Capacitor Funding Diverted to Local Car Dealer
County manager Walker issued the following statement: "Supervisor Watson ordered staff to do a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of the Ford Expedition purchase, which proved that the vehicle could never meet his ‘safety’ standards. However, the analysis did determine that a fully-loaded Lincoln Navigator would better fit his needs. As any diligent manager will tell you, it would be imprudent to handicap other county employees by forcing them to drive vehicles with fewer safety features than Supervisor Watson has found mandatory. Therefore, on my recommendation, the Board of Supervisors voted to purchase an entire fleet of Lincoln Navigators, ensuring fairness and wellbeing to all. Taxpayers will be pleased to learn that our brilliantly thrifty fleet purchasing program made this a deal we couldn’t afford to pass up. Unfortunately it did result in insufficient monies being available for the flux capacitor program. But we hope to fund that one very soon once the recent investment with our newly discovered rich cousin in Nigeria pays off.”
Calls to the supervisors’ offices went unanswered on the county’s new voice mail system, which now features the theme music from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Pressed for a comment about recent events, local pundit Loyd Peterson opined: “We all need to understand and accept the prioritizing of our elected representatives. To that end I will soon be interviewing my friend Gary, and writing an in-depth article outlining the improved reasoning ability that results from driving in style and comfort.”
DEVELOPING…
