I read with interest the article in the Feb 28 Miner regarding County Manager Ron Walker's decision to implement new policies regarding weapons and politicking on county property. If this were 1776, Mr. Walker and the entire Board of Supervisors would have been on the side of the British. If I recall my history correctly, those on the side of the British were considered traitors and either went back to England or were tried for treason. Sounds like that needs to be done again.
The entire Board of Supervisors, and their stooge, Ron Walker, do not live in the real world. "You People" put you all into office and "You People" are going to throw all of your rears out of office. We the people have every right to be on county property and hand out flyers for or against anyone we wish. Just because Walker is for John McCain is no reason to stop someone from handing out flyers against McCain.
As to Mervin Fried taking a pitchfork into the County Administration Building, it was very clear he simply wanted to make a point. Apparently, the BOS, those great history students, do not know about the "Pitchfork Rebellion." They keep trying to push the people down and they may actually find someone who really does want to stick a pitchfork up their butts. Mr. Fried was not that person.
I think our police have a lot more important work to do than to check that someone with a bumper sticker or campaign sign is actually on county business. Last I knew, this was still a free country and you could have any bumper sticker you wanted on your car or carry a campaign sign anywhere except to the voting booth. Now Walker wants to restrict bumper stickers and campaign signs. I guess if I walked into Mr. Walker's office and threw him the bird, I'd be arrested for having a deadly weapon.
Elections are coming, so don't get too carried away with new policies prohibiting the people from protesting what they feel is wrong. This is still a free country, at least for the next few days!

Today I watched Tom Sockwell on Laughlin's Channel 2 Morning Show. Now in my time I have seen a great deal of spin in life but this guy actually made me dizzy. There is a word for what Mr. Sockwell did on that show but to be polite I will say he completely misrepresented the facts. What a sham and what a shame! Please let me restate some of the facts as an eye witness:
1) Mr. Zanna was not passing out McCain's voting record inside the County building. He was outside. He was in compliance with ARS 11-410 while Sockwell was in violation inside. 2) Guns have been a normal and customary and acceptable practice inside the County building for the last 13 years. One Supervisor wore one himself as a matter of practice. 3) There was no gun or deadly weapon ordinance in place on Feb. 16th when Mervin Fried was arrested. The law was created and implemented on March 1st because The County Manager and the Supervisors feared for their own skins because their arrogance would not allow them to admit they violated ARS 11-410 and the 1st amendment. Why after 13 years of free gun toting inside the County building would they suddenly feel the public safety was in question? Why, because guilty people are paranoid. 4) No one ever brandished a gun or weapon at any meeting or protest. The pitch fork was a symbolic gesture. That same day 50 guns were legally in the room. I ask, would you feel more threatened by a pitch fork slung over a shoulder or a loaded gun? Why was Fried arrested and 50 guns allowed? I will tell you why. The Supervisors wanted to make an example out of someone, they wanted to send the message we can do what we want, illegal or not and if you question us we are going to get you. I think they call that a dictatorship. 5) At the March 1st Board meeting people left on their own, no one was escorted out. 6) Who taught Sockwell how to speak? I cannot believe a County Supervisor has such a poor command of the English language. "We done this" instead of did this "I says" instead of I said. This guy gives new definition to the phrase "Good ol Boys". 7) The recall is a reality not a threat as Sockwell claims. It' s a legal process and was promoted by County Manger Ron Walker, when interviewed said, in effect, the people have a due process if they don't like what has happened. 8) Mr. Sockwell either your spinning the facts to misrepresent or your memory is so poor you might need a prescription for Aricept to help with your Alzheimers. 9) Mr.Sockwell you told the host of the Morning Show you wished this would all go away and be over. Oh, so sorry, you might have more luck wishing to the tooth fairy. People in hell want ice water. You started all this and the people are going to finish it nice and legal with no violence.
I am so puzzled how anyone can try to minimize a clear cut violation of free speech by saying all this started just because one man was not allowed to legally pass out flyers. Well Mr. Sockwell and Mr. Morning Show host how would you feel if someone told you you were forbidden to speak at the Board meeting or on the TV. You'd be indignant and claim how outrageous anyone would suggest you be prohibited from your right as an American to free speech. It's the same thing.
Mr.Sockwell , save yourself any further embarrassment and resign now, if your so worried about the cost of a recall.

This letter is to reply to the 'Watcher's" comments about me. Thank you sir, for your kind words. And, yes, this is our country...all of us. And when we see something SO CORRUPT happening anywhere in this country, it is our obligation to speak up. I am so appalled by the actions of these 'public officials' that I had to try to help Mr. Zanna in some way. I am following this story carefully and hope and pray that these corrupt men are removed from office. I have told so many of my friends, from Pittsburgh to Lake Erie to Portland, Oregon, and to Seattle, WA and they are all reading about this. Hopefully, they will also try to help. If what the BOS is doing is found to be lawful and Constitutional can they sue you forkers for defamation of character and at the very least get restraining orders on you? And a further irony would be that because you would have restraining orders against you they would take your guns away. L...O...L!!!

What color is the boarders around the 4 sides of the flag/Flag patches worn by all cops and deputy sheriffs??? Hopefully, you just read what the gold or yellow fringe means... So, what do YOU think?

Thanks for the spelling lesson..I'll go kick my spell check software in the butt. Glad you were able to discern my meaning...that dropped "r" must have been soooo confusing to some. Let me return the favor...this is not "my blog". This was my "post" or "submission" in an opinion section of a local newspapers online edition. I point out a problem to an Evangelical Fundamentalist Christian, I'm a godless baby-killing heathen, I state an opinion on immigration or trade and I become a Liberal proponent of the NWO, I lawfully carry a pistol on my hip and I'm a Radical Gun Nut. Simply amazing the way some people go about their lives so closed-minded.

@Chili CC Where do you get such silly information about the flag? Fringe is nothing more than decoration...normally used to honor certain offices or individuals....but purely decorative. Para-phasing from several different websites.... "The fringe on a flag is considered an honorable enrichment” and " The placing of a fringe on a flag is optional with the person or organization, and no Act of Congress or Executive Order either requires nor prohibits the practice." So basically...you are making things up. Please stop...or provide a source.

I live in Pittsburgh, so this story should not concern me, but it does. I am 80 years old and have been fighting all my life for freedoms and rights of people. And, what 'these people' have done to Luca Zanna is reprehensible and has to be stopped. I have researched the entire events carefully, even to the point of writing a letter to Tom Sockwell, (which he answered immediately!!) telling him, basically, that this was STILL America. We can STILL pass out information in the form of flyers if we want to. On ANY street corner in America!!! There is no LAW against FREEDOM OF SPEECH in this country. Even thugs like Sockwell cannot stifle our freedoms with his power-happy attempts to shut Luca Zanna up. He and his cohorts will suffer for this. I don't have a problem with banning firearms in a meeting with county officials, one should face the fact that there are a lot of people in this town that just don't have respect for others, just look at your neighbor who has the constantly barking dogs and a high school mentality, and the pitchfork, well the statement was there but it should have been put away when it was time to go to the meeting or it should have been made from paper. I will say that in all my years of working for, and dealing with county politics and political correctness in a county 30 times the pop. of Mohave County, Mr. Walker was not only out of line with his wording and views in the article but very unprofessional. Then again you must realize, this is a small town and you are not going to get the "cream of the crop" when it comes to county officials, you will get the unexperienced, the undesirables, the ones with a bad background and the ones who just couldn't cut it in a larger county, or like Mr. Walker, they don't know how to use tact when speaking to and acting for the public that pays his salary.

It's the yellow fringe military flag that suspends Constitutional rights. One man asked them if they believe in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights and no one replied. They also have banned flags from the building. If we all go there with Title 4 USC Flags, we own the room. No guns, just flags.
