Luca Zanna, armed with unbridled passion for his adopted country and a rifle, handed out yellow flowers to a few of the more than 100 people who showed up for a pro-Second Amendment rally Friday in front of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

They came to share their enthusiasm for gun ownership, God and freedom - and to voice a universal disdain for President Barack Obama, the current political climate in Washington, D.C., and liberals they believe want to confiscate every gun in America.

A motorist would occasionally honk their horn in support as they drove by, including the driver of a school bus.

"The gun is just a tool," Zanna said. "Like a hammer. The flower is a symbol of love and peace, but if you touch my flower the gun might go off."

His message was well received by attendees, most who were armed with a rifle or handgun, or both.

Several participants shared their opinion, with Zanna videotaping the entire event.

Zanna was born in Italy, but has since gained American citizenship. "My dream was to be like one of you guys," he said. "Like your grandfathers who came and rescued my family on the beaches of Anzio (during World War II)."

Several people briefly spoke at the gathering. The theme varied by degrees - the country is halfway to becoming Nazi Germany; if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns; God entrusts me not to sell my children into slavery; Obama belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood.

But Patricia Koch shared a more tangible reason for advocating gun ownership. She said about a year ago a man tried to break into her home one night while she was home alone, knitting.

Armed with a handgun, she was able to scare off the intruder.

"I said, you get that door unlocked and you will not walk away. I have a gun aimed right at you." She held her fire and the man fled. She said police pointed out his footprints in her front lawn.

Kevin Jackson was there to support Sheriff Tom Sheahan, who earlier this week told the Kingman Daily Miner he would not enforce gun laws if he considers them unconstitutional.

Keith Nelson said the nation's Declaration of Independence is a document that "declared to the world we would be a free and independent people."

He said the federal government in its current incarnation is this generation's King George.

Another man who didn't give his name reminded those in attendance that brutal world leaders were responsible for more bloodshed in the last century than all other causes.

"The number one cause of death in the 20th century was government killing (its) own people," he said. The man mentioned the genocide committed by dictators and despots like Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, Adolph Hitler and Pol Pot, the man responsible for the deaths of millions of Cambodians in the years following the U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam.

Not everyone was there to support Zanna, Sheahan or, for that matter, unchecked gun rights.

"I may be 90 years old, but I still have my opinion," said Alyce Hughes, who stood in the crowd holding a sign that read, "Harm Reduction equals No Assault Weapons, No High-Capacity Gun Magazines."

Hughes is not a gun owner, but neither does she want all guns banned. Said her daughter, substance abuse counselor Deborah Torres: "Basically, it's please don't kill 26 people in a few minutes."

Citing her occupation, Torres said, "It doesn't take much for anyone to get unhinged."

Rehab scammers have little interest in success, just in numbers and the court system keeps them in business.

But hey, here's a great NY Times article on the scam

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/health/23reha.html?pagewanted=al

Another source, here:

http://www.altamirarecovery.com/drug-rehab/success-rates/

Which had this in it:

For example, a study published in the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse in 1981 followed people who had been treated in a therapeutic community for addiction. People deemed successful had committed no crimes and had no traces of drug use. In this study, only 38 percent of males and 42 percent of females were considered successful. This is a fairly difficult study to read, as it seems to imply that fewer than half of people who were given treatment benefited from treatment in the two years that followed."

Not very high success rates, are they Chuckles?

Then came the CYA excuses:

"It’s easy to feel cynical when faced with study results like this. But there might be a different way to interpret these success rates. Perhaps the people studied were not able to maintain their sobriety in the two-year follow-up period, but does that mean that the treatment was truly not successful? For some people, recovery is a slow process that can take many years to prepare for. Their early attempts may not result in sobriety, but they’re still constructing a foundation upon which later recovery efforts will be built."

Later recovery efforts? So even these clowns are saying it will take multiple times. But who cares if it is taxpayers stuck with the tab.

As I said, the scammers won't tell you how dismal a success rate rehab has. But there are sources like these to let you know why they keep it quiet.

@Stokes...yeah, well I have previously stated some of the dates and facts, which clearly have meant nothing to you, and a few weeks ago I walked into the Miner offices and explained myself and the facts further. There's a 300-word limit here, and libel laws. But I would very much like to depose the chief of police here, and I damn well mean it. And evidence - I'm told that KPD "misplaced" some of it. This involved a violent crime. But I didn't address my previous comments to you, or "Frank Lee Speaking", who have scandalized everything I have previously written. And about the films - it takes a lot out of me to start from scratch repeatedly, over a major phenomenon wherein the Government, in collusion with the nation's film industry, threads their knowledge and perspective and interests. I can explain it, but not within a 300-word limit. And save your scorn here, too, because you and others have refused to participate in settings wherein all this could be better explained.

But as long as they get reimbursed by taxpayers for their services, they really don't care. But if they had to give refunds for their failures, most of them would starve."

As you can see, just based on their high failure rate, I don't hold them in very high regard."

How can you base anything on their success/Failure rate? Remember, they won't tell you. Oops, darn those pesky facts. LoLoL

As to what you so nicely posted about their requirements for the job, that still makes them more qualified to discuss behavior than you and I. Sorry.

Nice attempt at twisting words and avoiding a subject though.

Let's see many kept saying the world was ending Dec. 21, 2012, it came and went, might be mistaken but the world did not end! We have been hearing folks preach this rhetoric of governments coming to take all the guns since as far back as i can remember paying attention to politics, and its historical fact the extreme right wing in America has been predicting our nations destruction, down fall due to democrats, socialism, communism and yet it does not happen! These folks remind me of the old fairy tale of the boy who cried wolf one to many times and no one paid any attention, only difference is instead of a wolf coming in that story the wolf never comes at all except in their minds!

Ahh, I got it. At first I became very very upset reading the comments. Thinking there are that many violent folks clinching that many guns. Then I realized it's really only one guy with a very busy keyboard. Gee, somewhat like the NRA's 4 million speaking for 100 million claiming to protect the rights of 350 million.

Article comment by: The Only Thing to Fear Is Fear Itself

Do you really believe you are going to stop the US government with a hand gun, an assault gun or even an AK47?

The kind of government all of you are so afraid of can very easily control its citizens. It won't do so with violence (can you imagine the outcry of the world). It will take place by control of the airways (right wing dominance of talk radio, etc.) and by dismantling the public education system (charter schools, private schools, home schooling, etc.). When you have a illiterate populous you have a country in which the few at the top can control the masses.

We have a great way of stopping an out-of-control government - vote, be politically active, educate yourselves, and instill in youth the importance of such.

Article comment by: Now the Gun Advocates Are Giving Reasons for Regulations, Thanks

Since you think "anyone" can get unhinged does that mean no one should be allowed to own a gun? I don't think that is what was advocated.

Ms Torres is exactly right. Everyone has the potential to become "unhinged" under the perfect storm. And that is indeed another reason to have sensible gun regulations.

No, it isn't possible to eliminate all gun violence but we must do what we can to eliminate easy access to weapons that can kill so many over a moment of rage or "unhingedness"

Sie Williams, these horrible mass shootings where large numbers of innocent people are killed in a short time verses one or two killed in an episode is the reason for an assault weapons ban. You cited 8000 - that's about 150 per week. Do you want to guess how many of those where young innocent 1st graders and how many were gang related?

"better qualified to talk about human behavior, which she was until you tried to twist her words, than you and I most likely are."

Requirements to be a substance abuse counselor vary from state to state. And in some even a H.S. diploma is not required. Here in AZ you can begin as a substance abuse technician with:

"An Associate of Applied Science degree in chemical dependency with an emphasis on
counseling from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 semester
credit hours of counseling related coursework, including 18 hours of coursework specifically
related to chemical dependency."

Confront any local substance abuse counselor and ask what their success rate is. They will not tell you because the success rate is a joke.

But as long as they get reimbursed by taxpayers for their services, they really don't care. But if they had to give refunds for their failures, most of them would starve."

She was supporting her mother. Her mothers sign was anti-"assault weapon". A natural conclusion woiuld be that she supports and agrees with her mothers view of "assault weapons".

I pointed out that one does not need a "assault weapon", whatever that is, to kill 26 people in a few minutes. It could be done with a revolver. but you knew that was the point all along.

In fact, armed with even an axe it should be possible to kill 26 in a few minutes.

Another attempt at obfuscation by you, Chuckles. Twice in one day. You are on a roll.

LOL

Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful Master". When you open the door, they will not have come to discuss anything with you. They will have come to take what is yours, what the Founding Fathers said was a right never to be infringed. Up til now, they have taken much by cunning and trickery. But they are getting bolder, these practitioners of terror-and-solution. Would you like to know what they have done right there in Kingman?

AMEN!!! and AGAIN I say, AMEN! to Wounded Knee. Anti-gun sheep are high on the kool-aid folks, period. It's not about and NEVER HAS BEEN about what this self proclaimed liberal progressive president has ever said, it's about what he DOES...his actions are that of a communist. I'm feed up with his illegitamate "reign" and the people that support the fool. Ever wonder WHY he studied to be a constitutional lawyer? Hummmm...? Evil exist's in this world and it has apparently been allowed to endure here. Our second amendment exists to give US, THE PEOPLE, power to defend ourselves against a tyranical, out-of-control government. Thomas Jefferson (TJ) understood that we needed access to the same military harware as the govt'. A 10 shot pea-shooter will not get the job done and they know this. It's throwing the baby out with the wash folks, when all that needs to be done is to change the water out

Its just another way this administration is dividing our country. Them vs us. The Haves and Have nots, the rich and middle class and now we are seeing the country being divided once more into the gun owners and those opposing our Second Amendment rights. We are watching history repeating itself through this administration... divide and conquer. It starts with taking away our freedoms...then they control the masses.

"Sorry Torres. But with a revolver and a box of bullets it is very possible to fire 26 times in "a few minutes". No scary, black military looking non-defined "assault weapon" ever needed.

And lets get real. Someone who is a substance abuse counselor is not a gun expert by any stretch of the imagination."

Sorry FLS, but Torres mentioned no specific weapon, you did. She mentioned the act.

Speaking of gun experts, I would imagine that not many that post here are. I own guns, but I am an expert by no stretch. She is, given her occupation, better qualified to talk about human behavior, which she was until you tried to twist her words, than you and I most likely are.

I might also point out that since you allege your "Terms of Use" have been in effect since 2006, you have allowed numerous posters to violate many part of said "Terms." What is your excuse for that? Eh?

I attended the march and took a good look around the group. I saw many who just wanted to spread hate and disdain for anyone who disagreed with them.

If you were an Obama supporter you had better not mention it or your dead meat! The majority of Americans voted for Obama and thus we have a great president who understands reasonable and logical gun control vs. vigilante attacks on innocent civilians.

My hat is off to the elderly lady who held up her sign in favor of positive gun control laws that limit certain types of weapons.

Do you want people like this to overthrow your government and implement their kind of leadership. It would be worse than what we already have as they have no ability to negotiate with all persons of this nation. They will force you to follow their ways and if you don't they will use their fire power to control you.
